Silver and Stone

There is a locket at my neck,
A heart of silver and stone,
I hold it when no one is looking,
Look inside when I'm alone.
My son is away on business,
He works for all mankind.
His life is about to get harder.
I pray for him all the time.
He chose this path in childhood,
With games and toys and speech.
He grew to manhood wanting it
And grasped it in his reach
The desert winds are blowing,
The heat is getting fierce.
The moon is full and glowing,
The battle will be worse.
I want my son at home now
I want to feel him near
But news is on the TV
And all I feel is fear.
But tonight I want another chance
To hold him to my breast.
To see the eyes that know me
And only I know best.
Marine mom's loves their children
And in the moonlit glow,
Tears will stain their pillows
Which in the day won't show.
Two men hold my heart now
Tomorrow you will know,
That half my heart is missing,
When I touch this heart of stone.
