Eleanor Dean Pozar, 81 years old, passed away in Fresno, California on February 4, 2005.

 

She was born May 27th, 1923 in Pacific Grove, California to Ruby Price Dean and Marshall Dean. She attended Acalanis High School in Walnut Creek, San Marino Hall School for Girls in Pasadena, California, and graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1941. Her interests in grammar school and high school followed her into her adult life. She enjoyed music, playing cello and singing.  She also loved theater, books and movies..

 

She was involved in community activities including volunteer work and fundraising. She was the president of the volunteer guild of St. Agnes hospital and gave over 5000 hours of service. She volunteered or did fundraising for The Golden Valley Girl Scout Council, St. Anthony of Padua church and school, Nancy Hinds Hospice, the Poverello House among others..

 

As a mother, she strove to give her children a variety of cultural experiences by taking them to the International Festivals, to museums, and traveling.. She gave of her time to various groups including the Boy and Girl Scouts and to the YWCA and YMCA. She encouraged her children to be involved in the arts and to enjoy reading.  She spent countless hours chauffereing her children.to their many activities and was active in the PTA.

 

As a wife she assisted her husband in his business dealings including his construction business and the development of a shopping center in Pleasanton, California.

 

Eleanor was a member of St. Anthony’s parish and had a special affinity for the Holy Mother and St. Anne.

 

She was recently preceded in death by her husband Frank. She is survived by her two older sisters, Mary Tyler and Dorothy Stevens, both of Pacific Grove, California.

 

Eleanor Pozar will be interred at El Carmelo cemetery in Pacific Grove. She loved the town where she was born and will be close to both her parents. Her gravesite will overlook the ocean near the Asilomar area as well as the numerous cypress trees that shade the cemetery. It is very common to see deer grazing on the grass as they pass across the grounds and onto the golf course.

 

Frank and Eleanor are survived by their children, and grandchildren; daughter Marsha Lewis and her husband Dennis, granddaughters, Caitlin Russell and Julie Scarlett, great grandsons Matthew, Robert and Dakota, son Timothy Milan Pozar and his wife Sue Olivier, grandson Benjamin Olizar, daughter KimMarie Pozar Gaye and her husband Carmie Gaye and grandson Kythe Robert Stillwell, daughter Leslyn Catlett, grandsons Andrew and Evan Catlett of Reno Nevada.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Frank and Eleanor Pozar’s name to either the Nazareth House, 2121 North 1st Street, Fresno, CA 93703 or to the Priests Retirement Fund, 1550 North Fresno St., Fresno CA 93703 or to the Poverello House,  PO Box 1222,5 Fresno CA 93777.
