Evaluation of Native American Web-sites

Pick one of the Web Sites on how to evaluate information, resources, quality on the WWW. Collaborate with your team and list below what you think are the main criteria to use in evaluating Web Sites.

Under Informational Web Pages, the important criteria are:

1. Authority-- Who created the page, how to verify them and what there qualifications are.

2. Accuracy-- Are the Sources listed?

3. Objectivity-- Is the site free of advertising?

4. Currency-- When was it created, when was it revised.

5. Coverage-- Is it still under construction?

What is the Purpose of the page?
Who is its intended audience?
What are the Sources?
Is the Author Identified?
What is their expertise?
Is the content Accurate?
What is the Point of View?

Pick one of the Native American Web Sites to explore and evaluate in terms of the criteria you have identified. Is the site credible? Why? What kinds of information does it contain? What is your evaluation?

Site: Voices from the Gap

The site has a link to the creators of the pages at the University of Minnesota English Department. It also has links to each of the page authors and information about each one.

The Sources are listed.
The site has additinal links.
The site has no advertising.
It is not easy to tell when the pages have been revised or the creation dates.
The site is still under construction and continually being added to and revised.
There is a link at the bottom of each page to respond to the content.

This site is about more than just Native Americans.
